How we teach someone English?

What is this?

This is a project that was created to be able to teach English to someone who wants to learn or needs it and not only English but also improve their pronunciation and grammar so that they can see progress in each class they had and at the end of the sessions they’ll be able to see the results that we have taught English to this person.

What did we do?

The first thing we did was plan interesting activities for the person, who in this case was Valeria's brother called Ayax. We did a presentation where we showed children's series that could help him improve his English, for example: Dora the Explorer, Masha and the bear, among others, the second thing was to play a memory game with images and its pair would be the name of the object, person, animal, etc., in English for example:(insert image)  We also did a bingo where on each player's card there would be several words and someone must say the other word corresponding to the ones on the player’s         cards and when the object, person, animal, etc. is said, you have to put a token on top of it until you complete all the card you had to scream bingo

How did we do it?

First we explained to the person what we are going to do in that session, it was learning colors, animals, family members, etc. Then we carry out what we had planned, be it watching a movie, series or game, it all depends on the progress we have in each session. At the end of the class we ask the person about the things we saw and he had to explain us what we saw on that session. 

The process

At first it was a little difficult to convince the person to teach him English because he was embarrassed, but in the end we were able to convince him, the classes were quite fun since they were activities that he could like and be entertained , the first thing we decided to do was teach him basic things like saying his name, age and things like that, then we taught him words and gave him children's series in English with simple language for him, that's where the first session ended, the second was on Friday and we played memory games and bingo, we did 2 rounds of both and in the end we showed him the cards and he told us how to say it in English and we did another session like that and that's where the sessions ended.

The results

At the end of the 3 sessions the person already knew how to introduce himself, say his age, family members, animals, some colors, numbers, basic words, and his pronunciation was a little better than before, he still needed a little more to improve his pronunciation but it wasn't much. He also learned the English alphabet, the way it is said, and how to do the American accent, it was the best we could do in three sessions which were, Wednesday, Friday and Monday , all sessions were after classes from 4 to 5:30, 1:30 long each session

Our conclusions 

Valeria:

My conclusion was that the person was very constant and optimistic in his classes it was clear that he did want learn although at the end of the class he could feel a little more tired but in the next session he seemed very cheerful, I feel that we were able to do a little more activities like some kahoot but I think the movies and series that we showed him were very fun for him, just like the games we made especially to teach him, he had fun just like us, he learned many things that he didn't know before and he can continue learning since we recommended other movies that would help him learn.

Alexa :

The sessions worked because he was entertained and was paying attention, at the end he understood things and learned the words that putted in  the memory game , so this classes worked and made him know basic things of English.

Fernanda:

My conclusion is that with practice and entertainment such as the ones we gave are the perfect combination to be able to learn English but this is something that requires time and patience. It is not only about learning in an ordinary way as it usually is but also about finding a way to have fun.

Barbara:

My conclusion is that if you dedicate time to study the topics and begin to reinforce it, you can reach a good level in English, and you can use different dynamics to be able to learn it.

Ivanna:

My conclusion is that there is a lot of easy and entertaining ways to teach someone English. Also that knowing a new language could help you in the future and this is why is necessary to find methods to learn more easily.
